I was recently contacted by a company called Optically.co.nz, who reached out to ask if I would be interested in talking about their product on my blog. It’s rather a funny coincidence, because I actually worked in retail optics for a number of years. I spent a significant chunk of time dealing with frames and lenses so it’s actually very cool to write this post and give you guys a bit of inside info, and let you know what to look for when choosing your own glasses. These days, glasses are a fashion statement. No longer are they looked at as being ‘nerdy’, in fact quite the opposite, and if you choose the right frame you can create a unique style for yourself. You can even purchase frames without prescription if you fancy a new accessory!
So how do you choose the right frame for you? First things first, get some inspiration. Whether it’s instagram, pinterest or magazines, I love to get some ideas together so I can see the kind of look I’m going for. It’s alot less intimidating to choose something when you know what you like. Next you need to think about practicality. What do you do on a daily basis? Work in an office? Look after kids? Are you active? It’s all well and good to choose something pretty, but if it doesn’t work for your lifestyle, you won’t wear them (trust me, I’ve made that mistake before!). The filters on the Optically website help to make sure you are looking at suitable options.
The fit of a frame is one of the most important things. The worst thing is choosing a frame you spend the rest of the day pushing up your face because they are slipping down, or choosing one that is too tight, and gives you more headaches than when you started! Optically have size measurements on every frame, so it’s well worth taking the time to look at that before getting your heart set on something that is the wrong size. If you are nervous about purchasing online, you can even use the ‘free try at home’ service to try on some options before making a decision. Now for choosing the frame style that will suit YOU. Think about your face shape (round, square, long..). If you have a very round face for example, you would want to choose a frame that is a bit more angular to balance out the face. And the opposite, if you have an angular face you would want a softer more rounded shaped frame. There are so many designs, colours and textures to choose from these days, so don’t be afraid to try something new!
Optically have over 3000 styles to choose from in all of the latest styles. Womens glasses, mens styles, designer glasses, prescription sunglasses and titanium ranges give you plenty of variety and the prices start at NZ $9 with standard lenses included (that’s not a typo, it’s actually that affordable!). I’m in love with the frame I chose! I really wanted a ‘geek chic’ style, and the matte black with gold is totally me! It’s SUPER lightweight so I can wear it all day without it being uncomfortable. The premium lenses have a scratch resistant anti reflective coating, which makes them alot more comfortable to see through, plus when people look at you they will see your eyes not their reflection. After wearing these for a few days, the frame feels good quality and for $39 I can not complain! My glasses came within one week, and I have had non stop compliments since I put them on!
Whether you need glasses, or just want glasses, Optically is a really affordable way to get a stylish new look and keep up with the trends without breaking the bank. I have a feeling I’ll be a regular on the site!
