This checkered skirt is something I saw and knew immediately that I wanted as part of my Autumn / Winter wardrobe. I don’t typically wear mini skirts, but paired with stockings in the cooler months makes it feel less risqué. You might typically think of checkered skirts as being a bit circa ’99 Britney Spears, but losing the pleats and going with a straight cut makes the piece way more updated and versatile.
Look#1: White t-shirt and blazer
You could wear this look paired with any closed toe shoe, but I love a heeled boot. Adding the oversized black blazer breaks up the otherwise form fitting outfit, which makes it more work appropriate. A crisp white t-shirt with a slightly longer sleeve keeps this look fresh and professional.

Look#2: Burgundy knit
The colour of the knit matches the red stripe running through the skirt, making this a perfect fall or winter season look. Paired with warm toned eyeshadows or a berry lipstick, will add just the right amount of colour to this look. I also love this outfit with combat boots.

look #3: Black turtleneck
This 1960’s inspired outfit with a black turtleneck keeps all of the focus on the skirt. Keeping shoes and accessories all black is a must. If you need an extra layer, go with a turtleneck knit.

look #4: White shirt
A white shirt makes this a great office outfit. To achieve this tied shirt look, decide where you want your knot to be, leave the buttons from that point downward unbuttoned, then tie in a double knot. The knot will cinch you in, so ideally place your knot at the most narrow point of your waist. You’ll need a soft fabric shirt, rather than a stiff cotton or it won’t sit flat.

detailing
As always, simple jewellery is the most chic. Keep in the same colour family, black, gold or silver.
